La Unidad roll to Champions Cup win

Forward Edwin Aguilar netted a hat trick to earn the tournament's Golden Boot award with seven goals in just three games, and Mario Flores and Jose Fernando Martinez both added goals as La Unidad's counter-attacking skills led to the decisive victory.

La Unidad goalkeeper Eduardo Rodriguez, 18 years old, made five saves, to deny the Dynamo Academy, which had eight corner kicks in the game to La Unidad's one.

But at the other end of the field, Aguilar and his teammates were clinical on the counter-attack. In the 14th minute, Aguilar seized on a loose ball at the left sideline and beat one defender into the box before slipping the ball past Dynamo goalkeeper Rommel Morales. In the 26th minute, Aguilar set up the second goal with a breakaway pass to teammate Mario Flores, who narrowly beat an offside trap before finishing past Morales.

In the second half, Aguilar turned in his best goal with a 30-yard dribbling run past three defenders in the 36th minute. Martinez scored on a 20-yard free kick in the 47th minute, and Aguilar sealed the game in second-half stoppage time with his seventh goal of the tournament.

The Dynamo Champions Cup, presented by H-E-B and Infinity Insurance, features the best amateur teams in the Houston area and is open to champions from leagues around the area.
