Quakes reserves top RSL, 5-0

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- The San Jose Earthquakes Reserves earned a 5-0 win over the Real Salt Lake Reserves Sunday morning at Stanton Field on the campus of Santa Clara University. Ryan Johnson scored two goals, Shea Salinas, Davide Somma and Mikel Arce each scored one goal to give San Jose the victory.

The Earthquakes jumped on the board with a header from Ryan Johnson. Johnson received a pass from Davide Somma and headed the ball past RSL goalkeeper Chris Seitz to put the Quakes up 1-0 in the 12th minute.

San Jose scored again on the 28th minute off a corner kick. Johnson scored for the second time in the game off a corner kick from Jovan Kirovski.

In the second half the Earthquakes scored three more goals. The Quakes Midfielder Shea Salinas received a pass from Michael Ghebru and blasted a shot that ended up in the right corner of the net to put the Quakes up 3-0.

San Jose kept attacking and they struck again a few minutes later. Gavin Glinton passed a ball through two defenders to Somma. Somma dribbled the ball past goalkeeper Chris Seitz and left-footed it to add the fourth goal for San Jose.

The Earthquakes sealed the victory with a shot from Spanish forward Mikel Arce in the 69 minute. Salinas crossed the ball and Arce side-footed it into the net.

With the victory the Earthquakes Reserves improved to 3-4-1.
