Michael Toshack begins his second year with the Dynamo after a stint with the Vancouver Whitecaps of the United Soccer Leagues. Toshack was the assistant coach to the successful Bob Lilley, winning the 2006 USL First Division championship.
Toshack was also the goalkeeping director responsible for development and training of all goalkeepers in the club, from youth teams to professional. Toshack also served as the goalkeeper coach for the British Columbia National Training Center West, identifying and coaching potential young goalkeepers for Canada's youth national teams.
Prior to Vancouver, Toshack served as the goalkeeping director for Mass Premier Soccer in Boston, one of the top youth clubs and PDL franchises in the country. He was responsible for the development of all goalkeepers for the 28 Super Y-league teams as well as the Cape Cod Crusaders of the PDL.
Toshack served as the Canadian U-20 national team goalkeeper coach from 1998 to 2001, attending
various training camps and games around the world, including matches against teams such as Germany
and Brazil in the 2001 FIFA World Youth Championships in Argentina.
After leaving the national team program, Toshack became goalkeeper coach for the Montreal Impact of
the USL First Division. There Toshack helped develop Canadian National Team goalkeeper Greg Sutton, who was voted USL First Division Goalkeeper of the year.
From 1994 to 2003, Toshack was the assistant coach at St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY. Toshack
helped develop the Saints into a perennial powerhouse in NCAA Division III, including a national championship in 1999. Four Saints goalkeepers have gone on to play professional soccer, including Greg Sutton of Toronto FC and Jordan James, a member of the 2007 Houston Dynamo.
