Western Conference Championship Week

Lisa Foronda – Channel 11

Of course, the biggest news in Houston are the Dynamo and who better to inform us than Lisa Foronda of Channel 11. She is one of their biggest fans! We caught her at the news desk sporting Dynamo gear and cheering on the team. "It's so exciting to see Houston come together to support such a great team," she tells us. An avid runner herself, she watches soccer but does not play. You can catch Lisa on television informing Houstonians about the latest breaking story, but come game day you will find her on the sidelines yelling "Go Orange!" When asked if she was going to watch the Western Conference Championship this Sunday she answered, "you have to go cheer on the Houston Dynamo!"

Curtis Murphy – Houston Aeros Defenseman

After an "edge of your seat" weekend match, Houston Dynamo are at it again going for the MLS Western Conference title. Showing his support for the team and their playoff run is Houston Aeros Defenseman Curtis Murphy. Originally from Saskatchewan, Canada, he is no stranger to soccer. Murphy grew up playing the sport and even played one year in Russia for a premiere team; however he joked that "up north there is a time in the year when it really hurts getting hit by one of these [soccer ball]." The Aeros' all-time leader among defensemen in goals, assists, and points had this message for the Dynamo: "Best of luck and hopefully they keep the winning tradition here in Houston and make it to the finals!"

Juan & José Díaz

The first ones to answer our call are local boxers Juan and José Díaz. Juan is the current undefeated WBA Lightweight Champion of the World, while his brother José is also undefeated, quickly moving up the ranks in the Featherweight division. "We wish the Dynamo the best of luck in the playoffs. We believe they are the team to beat, and hope they are able to bring a soccer championship to Houston," said Juan.

Brandon Backe

As we get closer to our home playoff date against Chivas USA, Houston personalities continue to heed the call to support the Dynamo. This time around, it's Galveston native Brandon Backe, pitcher for the Houston Astros, who says "Go Orange!," as the Dynamo host their first-ever playoff game on Sunday, October 29. Remember: The game now starts at 7:00 p.m.! Backe, who went 3-2 with a 3.77 ERA in 8 starts for the Astros during the 2006 regular season, wishes the Dynamo a good post-season. "(The Dynamo) look good. I hope they do well in their first post-season and help bring the MLS Cup to Houston," he said.

Evander Holyfield

Less than a week remains before our first-ever home playoff game, and Houston celebrities continue to support the Dynamo and its "Go Orange!" campaign. Four-time World Heavyweight Champion Evander Holyfield, who trains in Houston, knows about the Dynamo, and hopes they "knock out" Chivas USA in their first-round match up. "The (team) who wins is not always the strongest or the fastest, but the one who makes fewer mistakes. If (the Dynamo) do their job on the field, they'll be OK," said Holyfield, the only boxer in history to win four heavyweight crowns.

Bill White, Mayor of the City of Houston

Only a few days remain until our home playoff date against Chivas USA, and, as the day approaches, more celebrities continue to support the Dynamo. Today, it was City of Houston Mayor Bill White who took a moment to declare October 24 as "Go Orange" Houston Dynamo Day. White is currently serving his second-consecutive term as Mayor of the City of Houston, after being re-elected with a record-setting 91% vote. "The Dynamo are a great example of success to the City of Houston. We are extremely proud of our newest sports franchise and wish them much success in the playoffs," said White.

Mike Jones

Donning the Houston Dynamo inaugural-season scarf, Mike Jones is a local artist who hails from North Houston. Formerly an artist of Swishahouse Records, Jones is now CEO of his own record label, ICE AGE Entertainment. He also owns a club which is run by ICE AGE Entertainment. Jones hopes the Houston Dynamo 'rap' up their inaugural playoffs and bring Houston its first MLS Cup. "I'm very surprised with how well the Dynamo have done this season. I wish them all the luck in the world in their run to the championship," said Jones.

Houston Texans

We are only three days away from our home playoff match against Chivas USA (Sunday, October 29, 7:00 p.m. CT), and Houston's other football team (American Football, that is!) has stepped up to give us its support. Today, it's Texans Kicker Kris Brown, Punter Chad Stanley, and Quarterback Sage Rosenfels who team up to say "Go Orange!" "As a young franchise, we know the challenges the Dynamo has had to go through to get to this point. We commend them for their success, and hope they bring home Houston's first ever MLS Cup," said Brown. Rosenfels added, "We are very excited for the Dynamo, and wish them success in the playoffs." Look at their photos with the other kind of "football" and check back here soon for their video clips.

La Mafia

All right, here we go! Only hours remain now before our crucial home playoff date with Chivas USA, which made us put in the extra effort to close our "Go Orange!" campaign with a bang, or should we say...a band. Multi-Grammy-award-winning Latin band La Mafia changed their musical instruments for Dynamo jerseys, scarves and soccer balls to support their local team. "The Dynamo are a great addition to the Houston sports scene," said Oscar de la Rosa, lead singer for La Mafia. "We hope that they are able to bring to a city another sports championship, something that we've been missing in this town for a long time. Go Dynamo!"
