Requirements:

• Submit an application request »
• Bring $10 application fee to the auditions
• Must be 18 by March 21, 2009
• Wear flesh colored tights, dance top, hot pants or briefs, and dance or tennis shoes
• Bring a head shot and full length photo (non-returnable)
• Bring a valid driver’s license
• Applicant must commit to one full season (February 2009 - January 2010)
• Complete the release of liability form
• Must have reliable transportation

Additional Information

Please arrive to the tryouts at least 15 minutes prior to registration, which is at 9:00 a.m. Please park in the shopping center adjacent to 24 Fitness to allow room for the member's vehicles. If you have pre-printed your application, please bring it completed with you. You may download your application online, once you have submitted your information. Applicants will turn in all required material, stretch and attend a brief information meeting. Two dance combinations will be taught. Dancers will be asked to audition by number in groups of four or more. There will be 2 to 3 advancement rounds on this day.

There will be a 60 minute lunch break. You may either leave to get food nearby or bring your own lunch. (Please be prepared to stay the entire length of the audition. It's recommended that you bring plenty to eat and drink throughout the day to keep your energy level up.)

Auditions are scheduled to end at approximately 6PM. (Auditions are closed to the public.) Finalists chosen on this day will be interviewed and will attend the final audition on February 15th. Location for final auditions will be determined and provided at Prelims, on Feb. 7th.

Audition Q & A

What are you looking for in a Dynamo Girl?
Houston's Back-to-Back 2006 & 2007 MLS Cup Champions, the Houston Dynamo, are looking for talented, poised and dynamic women to take center stage and interact with fans at all home games and major events. Positioned as the team's ambassadors, the Dynamo Girls will join efforts with our organization out in the community by representing the team and helping to bring even more excitement and attraction to the game of soccer. Girls should be willing to work hard, as we have 11 months of employment and a long season.

Is experience necessary?
No experience is necessary. We will teach you everything you need to know on the day of auditions. Dancers will be judged on natural dance ability. In other words, if you have the ability to dance, can learn dance steps, but have had no formal training; you still have a real shot at making the squad. We have had a large number of girls without formal training make the team, based on their showmanship, enthusiasm, and natural talent. Dancers will not be chosen based on experience, but rather on how they "shine" on audition day.

Will there be prep classes available?
Yes. Classes are not required, but are available to help you warm up for audition day. If you are interested in signing up for Master Class, please e-mail us at dynamogirls@houstondynamo.com. Classes will take place the week of February 1st.

What should I wear?
For the preliminaries, wear something cute and comfortable. Required attire includes a midriff dance top-i.e. racer back, halter top. Try to stay away from strapless tops, as they may not stay in place. Bottoms may include boy shorts, hot pants, briefs, or even cute shorts. Flesh colored tights, or thick sheer to waist panty hose are figure flattering underneath. Try to stay away from hose with built in control that can be seen outside of your dancewear. Wear shoes that are comfortable, and that you can perform well in. If you like, bring options and extras just in case. For interviews, dress business casual. Finalists will be given a list of what to wear on the 15th.

How should I wear my hair and make-up?
Hair and make up should be neat and in good taste. Try to stay away from over-doing your make up. There will be several opportunities to freshen up-you may want to bring items from home so that you can primp throughout the day. Pack a mirror, make-up, and primping essentials, they will come in handy.

What kind of photos do I turn in?
Photos should have only you in the picture, and should be in good taste. Try to submit a close-up shot and one that is full length. They do not have to be professionally done-a printed photo of yourself that you like is sufficient. They will be used for identification purposes only, and cannot be returned.

What is the game commitment?
Dancers must attend all assigned scheduled home games. Requirements include pre-game rehearsal, promotional events, performances, and a post-game meeting. Typically dancers must arrive 5-6 hours prior to the scheduled kickoff time. A 2009 Dynamo Schedule will be released in mid-February. The season will consist of 16-20 regular season home games, and additional tournament games. All games are 2 hours in length and are played at the University of Houston's Robertson Stadium. What is the rehearsal commitment?
Dancers will be required to attend all rehearsals and mandatory meetings throughout the season. Tardiness is unacceptable. Rehearsals will take place every Tuesday and Thursday, and on days prior to the Games, as well as other assigned days throughout the week as needed. Game week usually consists of 4 rehearsals in one week. An example for a Sunday game practice week would be: Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and one other day within the week like Friday. For a Saturday game, the rehearsal week would look like: Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and one other day within the week like Wednesday. Rehearsals last 3 to 3.5 hours, and will begin as early as 6PM. Rehearsal locations include the University of Houston and other supporting sponsor locations in the Houston area. For the 2008 season, dancers rehearsed downtown, and at U of H.

Do I need to bring my own choreography to the auditions?
We will be teaching you everything you need to know at the auditions. In addition, you may be asked to freestyle for 2 or 3 eight counts. The point is to see your personality, so just have fun and really enjoy yourself at the try-outs. You may freestyle, make it up as you go along, or use choreography you have learned before at the audition itself. This is very stress free and relaxed. Just do whatever comes natural.

What do I have to do to get an audition packet or register?
You must fill out the "Online Request for an Audition Application" in order to receive an application. Please fill in your name, address, e-mail address, phone numbers, and all other pertinent information required. Filling out the request will also allow us to send you future updates, Master Class information, and dance audition information. Please make sure there are no mistakes on your entry to ensure prompt delivery. Once you have received the application form, please fill it out online and e-mail it back to us at dynamogirls@houstondynamo.com. In the subject line of your email, please put your last name, first name. Example in the subject line Re: Harman, Marilu.
